Mr. Ortega is a 1980 graduate of Edcouch-Elsa High School and a 1984 graduate of Pan American University (now UT-RGV) in Edinburg with a B.S. in Finance. He has over 40 years of banking experience. He owns over 35 car washes and is an investor in real estate and oil and gas.

In August 2009, Mr. Ortega was appointed as a director of TNB Bancshares, Inc., where he serves as chairman of the board. He also serves as CEO of Texas National Bank since July 2016. He is a voting member of all TNB Bancshares, Inc., board committees.
